Georgetown Cabins Resort

Six custom built upscale cabins nestled three miles into the Gila National Forest and on the side of Parapet Mountain with forever views of the Black Range of the Gila. This premier resort is near the arts and cultural community of Silver City, NM, and just off the Trail of the Mountain Spirits National Scenic Byway leading to the internationally visited Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. The cabins overlook what was once the historic silver mining town of Georgetown, NM, but all that remains today is a peaceful and beautiful valley. The closest neighbor is 2 miles away. The resort has a very relaxing and peaceful atmosphere with abundant natural beauty. The cabins were designed for couples to getaway. Amenities include a solar heated 8-person soaking tub with pergola, two large patio areas for sunning and gatherings. Guests enjoy hiking the area surrounding the cabins. This well-maintained resort is being sold due to husbandís health.
The resort sits at about 6,500 feet altitude, enjoys 4 gentle seasons, nearly 350 days of sunshine and is immersed in a forest of pinon pines, alligator juniper, black walnut, and oak trees. When taking a drive from the cabin, each direction leads to a different topography from tall ponderosa pines, to high desert plants, to open plains, and everything in between. The Gila National Forest itself is 3.5 million acres of land to explore.
The silver mining town of Georgetown boomed for about 30 years in the late 1800s. At its peak it had 1200 residents. Billy the Kidís stepfather had a restaurant in Georgetown and Billy hid out at the cemetery when he was hiding from the law. Lottie Deno, the character Miss Kitty from Gunsmoke was based upon, was a shill for her boyfriend Cherokee Dan while at Georgetown. Big Nose Kate, Doc Holiday and the outlaws from the OK corral also hid out at Georgetown. In 1894, the government decided to use gold to back the dollar instead of silver, and it was no longer economically viable to mine, and the town of Georgetown died off. Now all that remains is a peaceful and beautiful valley and a few footings and foundations.
